the reds tie, president obama in the blue. romney landing a number of job jabs on everything from debt and jobs and the economy to health care, to his green energy program, saying, americans, republican and democrat need leadership and he's prepared to provide it. the president, keeping his cool, said to be a challenge for him tonight, saying that leadership requires more than lofty goals trequires specifics and he didn't hear them from the governor. it was interesting to see mitt romney looking mostly over at president obama when he was making his point and president obama choosing to look at jim lehrer or looking down. what message do the viewers pick up on that? president obama looking directly into the camera on the subject of obamacare, wanting to communicate directly to the viewers at home, past the moderator. there was mostly respectful sparring in a robust debate. the moderator, jim lehrers was not nrsly in control, but not ineffective. this is the first time we have seen the candidates go back and forth. instead of hearing from a moderator, we got to hear from them. >> th

appears that the obama administration changed the monthly jobs report for political gain. after he was crushed at the denver debate, the labor department announced that the unemployment rate dropped magically to 7.8% in september. and the job registered more than 800,000. that's one of the biggest one-month jumps in 29 years. let me say this one more time. the biggest jump since 1983, convenient, considering that barack obama finds himself in the midst of perhaps the worst political week of his life. while the president claims that the unexpected news is a sign that america is, quote, moving forward, there are a growing number of skeptics that are crying foul. chief is the former g.e. ceo jack welch. unbelievable job numbers. they can't debate so they change the numbers. he appeared earlier today on "your world." >> these numbers don't smell right when you think about where the economy is right now. every economist predicted roughly 90,000 to 120,000. this economy doesn't feel like the employment improved this level. it is just -- maybe it's a coincidence that the month before the

obama ought not be the president anymore, and democrats go back and forth about the fire that they feel to keep him in office. so that's something that we've expected to see. but as the president stumbled in the debate and as he's had a rough week, that problem's been exacerbated. megyn: all right. not to sound too cynical, chris -- [laughter] i mean, they wanted to vote for barack obama -- they were extremely likely to vote for him a couple weeks ago, and now they're extremely likely to vote for mitt romney? i don't know. there was a piece by john padores in the new york post saying we can't trust these polls, the only thing we can walk away knowing is this is going to be an extremely close contest. >> i think he's missing it a little bit here. the truth is this, no one poll is fully accurate. what they are are snapshots, little glimpses of what's going on. they don't tell us what's going to happen on election day. for example, this: we know that republicans traditionally outperform polls and democrats traditionally underperform polls. that's what we know to be true throughout history.
